Calling something an iPod killer has become as cliched as making sitcom punch-lines from the words Mariah and Glitter. There are, however, a growing number of tech consumers on the hunt for a music device that isn’t Apple made.

Samsung has released a great option for those non-podders, the P2. It has a fairly unique GUI, with a touch screen and home button that – this Macboy can’t but point out – looks somewhat iPhone inspired.

Samsung P2

The device may hit shelves a little too late to make this year’s Christmas lists but is a solid iPod-alternative for those looking to go digital in the new year. For the iTunes-confined few though, we can only ever look as we are bound in sacred DRMimony to Apple’s iPod franchise.

I remember when I thought monogamy wouldn’t be a problem. I reached that point every guy does, where I even thought it’d be a good idea. I’d get it all in one place and wouldn’t have to go looking. Anytime, day or night. It didn’t matter that I’d be one-player-bound. She was sexy and young, the envy of everyone who saw her on my arm. Now the arm-band falls off and her click-wheel doesn’t move as smoothly as it used to. And there are times when the store’s down, closed for business. Cold-servers aren’t as much of a comfort as they used to be.

All I see are hotter, cuter players and…I wanna tap that. But the state of California says that if I try it, I won’t get even half my sh*t back. It’s the law in Cupertino…but f*ck man…that still don’t make it right!
